John started his career in 1983 specialising in buying, and progressed to hold senior buying roles at Argos, B&Q, New Look. John was then Trading Director for WH Smith leading the Buying and Merchandising function for the 520 WHS ‘High Street’ stores with a turnover of £1.3bn.

Building on this senior position, John then joined Past Times as Managing Director, and in 2006 he joined The Jewellery Channel as European MD overseeing the UK and German operations.
In 2009 John embarked on the successful turn around of British Bookshops and Stationers with Endless LLP and conducted an MBO in February 2010.
